I first heard of Camotes Island
from a professor who did a labor study on the island. I can no longer remember
the topic of her paper but she discussed the everyday life of the people in the
island. I immediately searched information of the island when I got home and
instantly made a promise to myself to visit the beautiful island.
Camotes Island is part of Cebu.
It is the first stop of our Cebu trip. We were able to book a tour package with
accommodation for our overnight stay.
Reaching Camotes Island is very
easy. From the airport we took a cab that brought us to North Terminal Station.
We rode a bus going to Danao Port where we will ride a ferry to bring us to the
island. The bus ride took an hour and the ferry ride going to the island took
two hours.
We booked our overnight stay at
Mangodlong Rock Beach Resort. They have a private beach where tourist that
would like to have a day tour will have to pay for an entrance fee and the use
of their swimming pool.
We didn’t go out in the afternoon and just
stayed at the resort. We spend the whole afternoon swimming at the clear water in the beach.

The
next day, we woke up early to prepare for our tour around the island. Our first
stop is at Danao Lake. My friend always compares the place to the movie Lake
Placid. We didn’t stay for long at the place since we are not interested in
renting their boats or kayaks and other facilities. We just took some pictures
and left.
Second stop was at Timubo Cave.
The cave has a narrow entrance but the stairs is well lit that you can easily
the path. There is some part that is a bit slippery. There is a family enjoying
the clear cold water of the cave inside. My friend wasn’t able to resist the
clear water and without hesitation submerged herself to the water.
After going to the cave we went to Baywalk area.
It is like the center of the island. We didn’t stay longer at the place also
since there is nothing to do in the place and we were all wet since we took a
dip at Timubo Cave.

Our
fourth and last destination is Santiago Bay. It was a jaw-dropped view when we
saw it. It was low-tide do there was a long-stretch of white sand. The water was
blue green then dark blue. The cloud in the sky even gives a more perfect
back-drop of the place. Santiago Bay is a public beach but the beach wasn’t
crowded. There are a lot of people but most of them stayed in the cottages.
There were only few of us enjoying the white sand and the cool water.
We would like to stay longer in
Santiago Bay but we have to pack our things and leave the island to head out to
our next destination. Our Cebu escapade has just started!
