Coloring the Night

On February 23, 2013, Bonifacio Global City was filled with neon colors. The event is part of the Color Manila Fun series. The first run they did this year happened also in BGC last January 6, 2013. The first run was filled with colored powders and now the second run everyone will glow in the dark. They encouraged everyone to be creative by putting on glow-in-the dark stickers, face paint or anything that will glow in the night. The Color Manila Nite Run primary concept was to fill the night with colors. Runners can choose from 10k, 5k or 3k run.

Runners registered from RUNNR shop in BGC, Alabang Town Center and Trinoma. Registration was also held in Toby’s Mall of Asia and Shangri-la Mall and at Urban Athletics Greenbelt 3. The cost of the registration was P850 in all divisions.

Registration at BGC

For the 10k run the gun start was at 8:30PM, for the 5K it was 9PM and for the 3K it was at 9:30PM. The organizer planned to have the run start late in the evening to avoid the participants weave through motorists. I and my sister registered for the 10k run and I was really looking forward for it because it is my first time to join a fun race.

The runners in traffic
I love the concept of having glow sticks put around your wrist or ankles to make the night look alive. However, I think the run wasn't organized that much. Since the run was at BGC and it was Saturday night as expected there were lots people meaning there's also lots of vehicles. We were running along with the cars, trucks and motorcycles. We have to stop when there are traffic lights or run fast enough while it’s our turn to pass to avoid being caught on the next stop. The drivers and commuters were really annoyed at us and even yelling at us because of the heavy traffic we have caused. Although, some people enjoyed watching us run and some are even taking photographs.

Another disappointment is that there are lots of turns to be done. This is aside from the vehicles that you will run across to. The glow-in-the dark sticks are not given emphasis because BGC is still full lights up. The drinking stations are very far from each other. At my count I think they have five drinking stations which mean it might be approximately 2k away from each other. They have also informed on their facebook page that medics are situated along with the drinking stations however I have not seen a single medical booth.

The night was fun because they have a big party after but the run for me was ultimately a disappointment. I registered not to party, my goal was to run.

Clubhouse sandwich at Pancake House
After an exhausting run we've decided to eat at IHOP which has just opened last February in BGC. This is the first IHOP that opened here in the Philippines. However at past 10PM there are still lots of customers lined up and the restaurant has already put the closed sign. They will no longer accommodate any customers except for those whom they have given the reservations.

My sister's friend is craving for pancakes, so we just ended up at Pancake House. We ordered a meal that is good for four but I think it can still feed up another person.
