Exploring Culebra Island

The white sand and four coconut trees
A trip to Villa Balinmanok would not be complete without visiting Culebra Island. It’s a small island where the waves collide with the white sand. An island untouched by developments that even a decent shade is not available. It is a quiet island with only the sound of the waves to sing its lullaby. Undoubtedly Culebra Island is one of those places in our country that is still unexploited by human.

Before going back to Manila and to fully take advantage of our trip in Dasol, we've decided to visit Culebra Island. The usual take-off point to get to Culebra Island is on Tambobong and Villa Balinmanok. The staff at Villa Balinmanok was very kind to assist us in hiring a boat to get us to Culebra Island. One of their staff even accompany us on our boat ride.

Since its already rainy season, out boat ride wasn't that smooth but its not that bad though. The boat we used is the same boat they used for fishing. It has no covering hence the whole ride was a direct exposure to the sun. It took us about 20 minutes to reach the island which from afar is just like a patch of sand placed in the middle of the sea.The place was a bit crowded when we reached it. There was already a terminal of five boats systemically rowed to where the waves cannot damage it. We had a hard time getting off the boat because of the waves.

At front, you will marvel at the white soft sand on your feet. Before basking ourselves at the refreshing water we've decided to take a tour at the place since its just only small and  there a lot of people on the beach. We went on the right side of the island wherein more large waves are rolling and colliding on the rocks. The walk on this part of the island is a bit rough because of the rocks and dead trees with thorns that was lying on the ground. You have to maneuver your way to be able to pass this part.

It was a great beauty to see the blue sky with fluffy white clouds meeting with the vast sea. The strong waves add a more dramatic and melancholic ambiance to the place. The back of the island has a long stretch of rocks. Picture opportunities on this part of the island was great because there were only few people here. The back part has only small beach area and waves is far much stronger compared to the front area. Our guide advise us that swimming is not advisable on this part because first it was bit rocky and second the waves are so strong that it can pull you to the sea without difficulty.

Sunblock and water is a must bring in Culebra Island. The island has only four coconut trees and aside from that there are no more larger trees to give you shade. Most of the visitors in the island must have to make their own shade to avoid too much exposure to the sun.

All the heat you feel will be gone once you have submerged yourself to the sea. The sand may not be fine like other famous beaches in the country but I can say that its soft and cool on the feet. A feeling of enjoyment will fill you when riding with the waves. You should still be cautious because there are times that the waves are really big that its even higher than a person. Sometimes it can even pull a person away immediately from the beach.

Overall, the trip was enjoyable. We were able to see a place that is very raw. Its simple and yet has its own appeal.
