Beach Time in Sumilon Island

Nothing beats a day in the beach! This is the last part of our Oslob tour. After the whaleshark encounter we went to Tumalog Falls and decided to have our lunch in Sumilon Island.

Sumilon Island is popular for its white sandbar. The island is also common as honeymoon destination. There is only one resort located in the island making it more ideal for intimate affairs.

The island is very visible from the port area. It will only take you 15 minutes to reach the island.

We were able to rent a boat at P1,500 that will bring us back and forth in the island. The boat was very expensive considering that it will just bring you to the island and will get back to fetch you on your agreed time. We've bought our food for lunch on the port area. We've decided to have our lunch in the island to maximize our time.

To our dismay the island was filled with people. There were already three large boats parked on one side of the sandbar. Our boatman even had to ask some people to move and give way to our boat. Our tour guide in Oslob did not inform us the ideal time to visit the island for the sandbar. It was high tide when we reached the island so we were not able to fully enjoy the sandbar. Worst part is since we did not took a day tour in the island from the private resort, we do not have a place to put our belongings. Eating our lunch is quite difficult also since we don't have a table or chairs.

We were still able to wade on the water but for only a few minutes because it was noon and the sun is at its peak. People started to leave the place after lunch. The sandbar also started to emerge.

There is limited shade on the island and since the place is often crowded it is very hard to get a perfect spot for you to relax. It would be much better if you have the budget to book a day tour at the resort located in the island.

I just hope the locals of Oslob are more helpful in giving information to their tourists. It is not enough that you give services to them. Little information like the time of high tide and low tide will make tourist appreciate the place more.

The place is still beautiful but it is not that secluded or something that is undiscovered. My advice is to get more information about the place to enjoy it more.
